T1 lines are capable of delivering 1.54 Mbps simultaneously in both directions, one direction for each pair of copper lines. T1 lines are dedicated, in that they are always connected, and are also extremely stable. Most reputable providers include service level agreements which guarantee the reliability of the T1s they offer. There are several types of T1 line. These include: full (1.54 Mbps), fractional (commonly 128 Kbps to 756 Kbps), burstable (less expensive for companies which normally do not need a full T1, but at times due to peak work loads, need a burst to full T1 bandwidth), integrated (one T1 line comprised of any combination the types of T1 listed here), channelized DS1 (another name for integrated T1), point-to-point (direct and constant T1 connection between to locations), data (internet), voice (telephone), local (local phone service), pri (voice service which includes added features such as caller ID), and frame relay (a T1 network between two or more locations). Each of these types of T1 has advantages over the others, depending on the specific needs of your company. Also, the availability of each is based on the offerings of each T1 provider and the geographic location. New York City has the highest concentration of t1 providers in the country, therefore prices are extremely competitive.  T3 or DS3?

Written by: Dennis Green - Mar 10, 2010

In the context of telecommunications, the terms T3 and DS3 are often used synonymously to describe a 45 mbps (megabits per second) circuit. A T3/DS3 is the equivalent of 28 T1s. People who are more technically inclined will often refer to DS3 when they are talking about the configuration of the circuit, and T3 if they are referring to the physical connection which carries the circuit. Most people, however, use both terms interchangeably. T3/DS3 is used for carrying both voice (in the form of data) and data traffic. T3/DS3 is commonly used for larger point-to-point circuits, MPLS (multiprotocol label switching), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), internet traffic, call centers, and videoconferencing. To check availability or pricing for any T3 related services, please use the pricing tool located at the top of this page. It is easy to use, free, and without obligation.
